The German top club Borussia Dortmund is taking action after the right-wing extremist party AFD referred to the club on a sticker.

It is ahead of the municipal election in the Westfalen region on September 14 that AFD has printed stickers with the text "black and yellow in football – blue on Sunday". The text is a reference to the region's largest team Dortmund, whose club emblem and match jerseys are yellow-black, as well as the party's blue color.

The stickers were not appreciated by the club, which has submitted a cease and desist letter to AfD, in which they urge the party to stop using them.

"Our perception is that this is an illegal attempt to create a link between the club and a political stance, and suggests that a Dortmund supporter should vote for AfD. We do not want to allow this perception, and it contradicts Borussia Dortmund's values", says a spokesperson for the club to DPA according to Sportschau.

The party has until Tuesday to sign the letter and cease the use of the sticker before Dortmund takes the matter further.
