Panda fever in Hong Kong: What will the twins be named?

The fascination began already in August, when the giant panda Ying Ying got cubs for the first time despite her high age of 19 years. The twin cubs weighed only 122 and 112 grams respectively when they came to the world and, like all pandas, were born deaf, blind, and pink (the characteristic black and white fur develops later).

Now the cubs have grown and over the weekend, they will be presented to the public at the Ocean Park facility in Hong Kong. Then, the naming contest for the playful cubs, who frequently appear in social media, posing on swings, trees, and rocks, will also begin.

Ocean Park is also home to their parents and two other giant pandas donated by Beijing.

Officials in Hong Kong now hope that the animals, whose diet of bamboo is expensive, will attract many tourists to the city.
