The Chancellor of Justice (JO) directs criticism towards the police since a preliminary investigation into fraud was dropped after four years without a single investigative measure being taken.

The investigation was discontinued with reference to the statute of limitations in 2023.

The police apologize in their response for what happened, and state that there was a large influx of fraud cases and high workload. The case was deprioritized since it did not involve serious crime and there was no "detained or criminally active suspect".

JO Per Lennerbrant has several times criticized the police for slow handling of fraud cases. He emphasizes that it is "very urgent" that measures are taken, as the shortcomings can seriously damage the public's trust in the police.

"In the long run, it can lead to the victim of a crime feeling that they cannot count on any help from the crime-investigating authorities," writes JO.
