The Government has given the Public Health Agency (FHM) the task of reducing the spread of certain sexually transmitted diseases, including gonorrhea and HIV.

This will, among other things, be done through information and knowledge efforts against the stigma surrounding the diseases that have led to some people being reluctant to test themselves, according to Dagens Medicin.

”Stigma surrounding HIV and other sexually transmitted infections is unacceptable in 2025. Prejudices and ignorance should never prevent people from receiving good care or testing themselves for HIV, gonorrhea or other sexually transmitted infections", writes Lina Nordquist, group leader for The Liberals in the parliament, in a press release from the government.

FMH will receive ten million kronor for efforts to limit the spread of infection.
