In just over two weeks, on November 29, the World Cup premiere will take place in Finnish Ruka. But then Norway's big star on the women's side, Kristine Stavås Skistad, will not be present.
Norway's national team doctor Ove Feragen confirms that the 25-year-old was operated on on Friday. How long she will be out is still unclear.
Kristine underwent a stomach operation on Friday. She will be out for an indefinite period, says Feragen to NTB.
The operation is said to have gone well, and according to Feragen, the home World Championship in Trondheim in late February/early March is not in danger.
Kristine is looking forward to this year's highlight, the World Championship in Trondheim. She will use the coming weeks for rehabilitation and will return to competition when she is ready for it, says the national team doctor in a statement.
The hope is that Skistad Stavås will soon be back in training, and that she can start competing again around New Year's.
We are confident that she will be in good shape and compete again by New Year's, continues Feragen to NTB.
In recent seasons, Kristine Stavås Skistad has been the big threat to the Swedes in sprint. In the total sprint cup, she had to settle for second place behind Linn Svahn last season.
