Stefan Nilsson entered the final qualifying round with his back against the wall and clear conditions. Score 25 out of 25, and hope remains.
Then the 33-year-old did exactly what was required of him, and reached a "shoot-off" against Italian Gabriele Rossetti, Germany's Sven Korte, Peru's Nicolas Pacheco Espinosa, and home favorite Éric Delaunay for the two remaining final spots.
There, the Swede also managed to secure one of the two tickets to the afternoon's final, where six shooters will compete for medals.
This is Nilsson's second OS-final, the first one was in Rio eight years ago. Then he finished sixth. Now he's aiming higher.
The final begins at 15:30 on Saturday afternoon.
The other Swedish participant, Marcus Svensson, did not advance.
