The American football star and quarterback has been named NFL's best player four times, most recently in 2021 in his then-team Green Bay Packers.

He leaves Jets after playing all 17 regular season matches last season when the New York team missed the playoffs.

"Last week, we met Aaron and shared our intention to change direction regarding the quarterback position", says coach Aaron Glenn and general manager Darren Mougey in a joint statement.

Rodgers left Packers in 2023, the club he led to the Super Bowl title in 2011 and has legendary status in. He then signed a three-year contract with Jets worth 112.5 million dollars, equivalent to approximately 1.2 billion kronor. In his first season with Jets, he tore his Achilles tendon in his debut match.

Rodgers has said that he will decide during the free agent period in March whether he continues to play NFL football next season or not.
