Denmark and the Netherlands have begun their deliveries of F-16 planes to Ukraine. The announcement came from NATO's top meeting in Washington on Wednesday.
The two countries have promised to send a total of 43 F-16s to Ukraine.
In addition, Belgium will send another 30 fighter jets and Norway six planes. The Norwegian planes were promised last year, but the number was specified on Wednesday.
Being able to control one's own airspace is crucial for Ukraine's defense, says Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre to NTB.
Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky thanks on social media for the announcements from the top meeting.
"The F-16 planes bring us closer to a just and lasting peace, and show that terror always fails everywhere", he writes.
The announcement comes a day after several NATO countries will send several new air defense systems to Ukraine, including four Patriot systems.
