What was said at the press conference afterwards?

The Russian president was allowed to speak first, and spoke for about eight minutes. Trump, who had previously been known for speaking at length at press conferences, spoke for about four minutes.

The two presidents did not elaborate on exactly what they had discussed. They also did not answer questions from journalists.

Putin said that Ukraine was the main topic of conversation during the meeting, and he claimed that Russia is genuinely interested in ending the conflict.

Trump described the meeting as constructive. He added that they both agreed on "many, many points".

Putin warned Ukraine and its allies, including the EU, against creating obstacles on the path to peace.

Putin's visit to Alaska lasted a total of about four and a half hours. The presidents are also said to have spoken one-on-one for ten minutes during a trip to the airbase in Trump's armored presidential car.

What happens now?

Trump stated that he will probably meet Putin again very soon. Putin suggested that they should meet in Moscow, which Trump described as "interesting".

In an interview, Donald Trump gives the meeting with Vladimir Putin "10 out of 10" in grade. He says that "it's now up to Zelensky".

Donald Trump has previously said that it will require territorial concessions from Ukraine to Russia. In an interview with Fox News after the meeting, he says that "there will be some land exchange" between Ukraine and Russia.

Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky and several European leaders have been updated on the meeting by Trump.

Zelensky will travel to Washington on Monday for a meeting with Trump, he writes on X.
