The flight had been chartered by the Russian state for the Russian journalists who were to attend the meeting.
"Our journalists, who flew to Alaska with a special flight, were served chicken Kyiv on board the plane”, wrote Russia Today chief Margarita Simonyan on the messaging app Telegram, which caused several Russian journalists to write happy cheers.
But not everyone was equally positive.
"With chicken Kyiv and Lavrov's choice of clothes, I think we see what signals Russia wants to send”, says Doug Klain, analyst for the American non-profit organization Razom, which delivers humanitarian aid to Ukraine, to The Independent.
He is referring to the fact that the Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov arrived in Alaska wearing a t-shirt with the text "USSR" as a reminder that Ukraine was then part of the Soviet Union.
Lithuania's former Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis tells CNN Russia that the move feels unpleasant.
Russia will take every opportunity to humiliate the USA, the West and Ukraine, now that they have been given a platform on the "world stage", says Landsbergis to the TV channel.
Chicken Kyiv is a Ukrainian dish consisting of breaded chicken fillet.
