When the police at eight o'clock on Friday evening slowly begin to release the barricades around the mosque, it is deserted – and difficult to imagine the chaos that prevailed earlier in the day, when a young man was shot to death and another was shot and injured.

People became very scared and did not know what was happening, says a man in his 25s who does not want to give his name.

He stands at the barricades with a number of other people who are all waiting to pick up their cars that have been stuck for hours behind the police tape.

I was in the mosque when it happened and heard loud bangs. It feels so terrible, it could have happened anywhere but it happened right here, says the man.

Difficult to come back

He tells that he lives in the area and visits the mosque every day.

It will be difficult to come back here in the beginning, you probably need some time to move on from this.

In a recreation center near the mosque, Friday evening is going on as usual with disco lights and games.

It is important that young people can have a normal evening after an event like this. Just hang out with friends and meet safe adults, says Abdulrahman Ibrahim Muhammed.

He tells that many of the recreation center's visitors usually attend the Friday prayer.

Of course, we have it in mind on an evening like this. It is frightening that such a violent act comes so close and it affects the entire area, he says.

Meet safe adults

Abdulrahman Ibrahim Muhammed describes the recreation center as a positive force during violent events like this.

There are not many activities where young people can come and meet safe adults until eleven o'clock in the evening, so it is clear that it has a significance, he says and continues:

When something like this happens, it is important that we do not close our doors, because then there is no place where you can meet.
