In June 1995, a 7-year-old girl was raped and murdered in Copenhagen. 29 years later, the police announce that her killer is believed to be identified. The man is, however, dead since 12 years ago.
The murder of the 7-year-old girl, which shook a whole nation, occurred in a residential building in the Nørrebro district of Copenhagen on June 13, 1995.
The case has so far remained unsolved, but with improved DNA analysis capabilities, the police have now been able to identify a suspected perpetrator – who died in 2012.
The man has, according to the police, been suspected of murder for several years. The new evidence is sufficient for the prosecutor to consider the case closed and drop it, according to Brian Belling of the Copenhagen Police.
The girl's family received the news on Thursday morning, Belling reports.
Belling refuses to answer whether the man knew the girl and whether he can be linked to other crimes.
