The US's first lady Melania Trump appeals to Russia's president Vladimir Putin to "as a parent" think of the children and their future. In a letter to the president, she writes that all children dream of having love, opportunities and protection from danger, but that many children in today's society do not get it.
"Mr Putin, you can alone restore their melodic laughter", it says in the letter which Fox News has published in its entirety.
Further on, she writes that he would not only serve Russia but also humanity if he protected the children. She concludes the letter with the words "It's time".
It was during the summit in Alaska that her husband – the US president Donald Trump – personally handed over the letter. Melania Trump herself was not present in Alaska.
