At least 33 people have died in connection with an annual Muslim pilgrimage in Senegal, according to local authorities.
The pilgrimage, Magal, attracts millions of participants every year and goes to the city of Touba in the western part of the country. Most of the fatal accidents occurred in traffic, and the number of dead is an approximate doubling from last year.
Among the reasons for this year's increase, rainy weather that made roads slippery is mentioned.
