The police were alerted via SOS Alarm at 19:00 on Wednesday evening that several people in an apartment in the Kungsmarken district of Karlskrona had poisoning symptoms after eating cookies.

Of them, seven people are estimated to be lightly injured on Thursday, while two are seriously injured. Some are still being treated in hospital, says prosecutor Lena-Marie Bergström, who is leading the investigation.

As I have understood it, some of the younger ones have been treated in the intensive care unit. I have not received information that it is life-threatening, but it has been serious, she says.

Gross Assault

During the night, a 20-year-old man was arrested and subsequently detained. He is suspected of gross assault.

Several of the people affected by the poisoning symptoms belong to the same family, but not all.

They were also acquaintances of the family, says police spokesperson Thomas Johansson.

The detained man is not a member of the family.

It is one of the people who were in this apartment and who ate the cookies, who has stated that they came from this man, says Bergström.

Cookies Secured

It is unclear what the affected people were poisoned by. Cookie residues have been secured and will be analyzed.

We have also taken samples from all the plaintiffs, says Bergström.

The majority of the injured are between 11-20 years old, but among the injured are also a man who, according to Region Blekinge, is between 51-60 years old, a man between 21-30 years old, and a boy who is younger than 11 years old. All the affected except two are boys or men.

Corrected: An earlier version contained an incorrect statement about the gender distribution among the injured.
