The Fäbod culture becomes new cultural heritage. UNESCO has decided that mountain farm dairy farming will be inscribed on the list of humanity's intangible cultural heritage.

Intangible cultural heritage includes traditions, customs, and practices that have been passed down between generations. Fäbod culture includes, among other things, knowledge about animals and nature, forestry, and music.

The decision was made during the annual committee meeting held in Paraguay. Fäbod farming has been nominated by Sweden and Norway jointly.

"Fäbod farming is a good example of a living tradition with strong commitment among practitioners and which is passed on from generation to generation. It is a cultural heritage that we share with our neighboring country Norway," says Minister of Culture Parisa Liljestrand (The Moderate Party) in a press release.
