The Japanese player led 2-1 in sets, but Möregårdh won the tight fourth set 11-9 to force a deciding set. There, the Swede was clearly the strongest and won 11-4.
In the round of 16, another Japanese player awaits: Tomakazu Harimoto, whom Möregårdh met in the team event at the Olympic Games in Paris. Then, Harimoto won, but later lost to Anton Källberg in the decisive match that took Sweden to the Olympic Games final.
Just Källberg is now also through to the round of 16 in Beijing, after beating Nigerian Quadri Aruna 3-1 in sets. Next, sixth-seeded Chinese player Lin Shidong awaits Källberg.
Tuesday's play also saw a couple of Swedish losers, in the women's doubles. Christina Källberg and Linda Bergström lost to Adriana Diaz, Puerto Rico/Prithika Pavade, France, 1-3 in sets.
Later in the day, Christina Källberg got her revenge in the mixed doubles, where she, paired with Kristian Karlsson, is through to the quarterfinals. The Swedes beat Paulina Vega/Nicolas Burgos in three straight sets.
