Extra checks will be carried out across the country.

If there is suspicion that incorrect information has been deliberately submitted, the authorities will gather information from, among other things, employers. If the suspicions are confirmed, it can lead to a police report – and fines or imprisonment. The Social Insurance Agency also demands repayment of all incorrectly paid out money.

The Social Insurance Agency further states that it becomes more accurate in its work to combat fraud thanks to increased knowledge and better tools.

"Today, it's easy to apply for VAB and the money comes quickly. Unfortunately, we see that there is a group that commits benefit fraud and we're doing everything we can to find and prosecute those individuals", says Peter Fausö, head of the Social Insurance Agency's control operations, in the press release.
