Very odd scenes unfolded in the men's decathlon at the European Championship in Rome.
In the 110m hurdles, Frenchman Makenson Gletty didn't hear the starting gun. The 25-year-old, understandably, finished last in the race and was afterwards upset and sad.
A protest was subsequently lodged, and while it was being processed, Gletty got to run again – entirely alone on the track.
How did it go? Absolutely brilliantly. Gletty finished with a time of 13.88, a personal record according to SVT. This can be compared to the time from the first race, 15.30.
Which result will actually be registered remains to be seen.
