What: European Championship premiere in football, group C.
Where: Stade de Genève, Genève, Switzerland.
When: Friday at 18.00.
Conditions: Sweden's premiere match can very well be decisive for the entire championship. Victory and you are halfway to the quarterfinals, as Poland is expected to become the group's whipping boy. Defeat and it will likely require a win against world three Tyskland in the last round if Sweden's European Championship is not to be over already after the group stage. Only the first and second in the group advance.
Opposition: Sweden has already met Denmark in two competitive matches this year, both in the Nations League. It has resulted in double blue and yellow victories, most recently with a whole 6–1 at Strawberry arena a few weeks ago. But the Danes, with Swede Andrée Jeglertz as national team captain, should not be underestimated. For the Swedish defense, it is mainly a matter of keeping an eye on Bayern München star Pernille Harder.
Rolfö's status: On Thursday, there were positive messages about Sweden's perhaps biggest star, Barcelona's Fridolina Rolfö. Rolfö stays in the European Championship squad despite her foot injury. The day before the premiere, she did her first training with the national team since she injured herself in the Nations League match against Denmark at the beginning of June. She is unlikely to play the premiere, but the hope is that she will be able to participate later in the European Championship. As a result, Matilda Vinberg, who traveled to Switzerland as a reserve, has been sent home.
Silent minute: After Liverpool star Diogo Jota's death, the European Football Association has decided that there will be a silent minute before Thursday's and Friday's European Championship matches.
