+ Have won more than every other European Championship – but none in twelve years
Germany has won more than half of all European Championships played on the women's side since 1984; eight out of 13, including six finals in a row (1995–2013) and once as West Germany (1989). But now it's been twelve years since the last one (European Championship in Sweden 2013). In the last European Championship, 2022, the team was in the final but lost to the host nation England after extra time at Wembley in London.
In the World Championship in Australia and New Zealand two years ago, Germany made a grand fiasco and was eliminated for the first time in the group stage. In the Olympic Games tournament in France last year, the great nation took a bronze after defeating the reigning world champion Spain in the match for third place in Lyon.
+ Championship debutant – 44 years after the first international match
Poland's women's national football team played its first international match on June 27, 1981 (0–3 away against Italy in Catania). Only now, 44 years later, is the team making its first championship finals appearance after a playoff win against Austria last winter.
Barcelona star and team captain Ewa Pajor was one of the heroes back then – and is expected to be a key player during the European Championship in Switzerland.
