Representatives of the arts express strong concern over the government's plans to incorporate the Arts Council under the Cultural Council. The joint organisation of artistic professions, Klys, "advises against" such a centralisation of power in the submission made to the government. The Academy of Fine Arts takes the same stance, "emphatically" advising the government against proceeding with the proposal.
The Royal College of Art, in turn, sees a risk that artists' independence will deteriorate. The economic benefits of a merger are simultaneously limited, according to the College of Art.
"The proposal comes at a time when the need for investments in artistic creation is greater than ever," Klys highlights, believing that arts policy risks being marginalised through a merger. Another risk is that knowledge, competence, and experience will disappear.
