At least 24 people have died in floods and landslides in Abidjan, the Ivory Coast's largest city.
In just one day, a quarter of the rainfall normally expected during the entire rainy season between May and July fell, according to local authorities.
Flash floods and devastating mudslides are common occurrences in the six-million-strong city of Abidjan, where many residents live in simple shacks in flood-prone areas.
Last year, at least 30 people died in floods linked to heavy rain.
