Total sales of clothing increased by 3.9 percent compared to January 2024, while shoe sales rose by 11.4 percent.
Sales in shoe stores increased by 10.5 percent, while online shoe sales saw a larger increase of 14.4 percent. Physical clothing sales rose by 2.2 percent, while online sales grew by 8.9 percent.
"It's a statement of strength that the fashion trade is starting the year relatively strongly," says Sofia Larsen, CEO of Svensk Handel, in a press release.
However, she notes that January 2024 was a tough month, which is why one cannot draw too far-reaching conclusions yet.
