Two security guards are convicted in the Svea Court of Appeal for causing another person's death after a man died in connection with an intervention in the Stockholm subway during the summer of 2022.
The Court of Appeal sentences them to a conditional sentence and day fines, thereby upholding the verdict from the Stockholm District Court.
The guards, now 26 and 32 years old, intervened against the man when he was violent and had physically attacked several people on the Rådmansgatan subway platform in Stockholm.
In connection with the arrest, the man was held down by the guards on the ground with pressure on his back and a chokehold around his neck, for over a minute. He died on the spot, according to the autopsy report, due to asphyxiation "through a combination of chokehold in a prone position with pressure on the back".
The security guards have stated in questioning that they feared for their lives and acted in self-defense.
He was so incredibly strong and aggressive, and I thought, shit, he mustn't get up again, because then it's over, said one of them during the trial in the district court.
