Murder suspect in Lund claims self-defense

Conflict surrounding joint business ventures is suspected to be behind the murder of a man in his 20s in Lund on May 31. Now a 47-year-old man is being prosecuted, who admits to having subjected the younger man to violence, but defends himself by claiming it was in self-defense.

Senior prosecutor Mathias Larsson, on the other hand, believes that the investigation does not provide support for it being a self-defense situation.

Overall, I believe that he cannot avoid being held accountable for this, says the prosecutor.

The younger man was so badly injured with a hammer that it took two weeks before his identity could be safely established. He was found in the 47-year-old's home, after both the suspect's and the victim's relatives had alerted the police.

They have known each other previously and seem to have had various projects and economic dealings together. It is this that culminates in this incident, says the prosecutor.

The defendant claims that he was pressured to pay money to get a forestry deal completed.

During his time in custody, he has undergone a minor forensic psychiatric examination, which has shown that he may suffer from a serious mental disorder.
