Two pregnant teachers who were prohibited from working during the pandemic are entitled to full compensation, the Labor Court decides.

"It is very gratifying that we won today! The Labor Court has found that our members have actually been discriminated against," says Anna Olskog, chairman of the Swedish Teachers' Association in a press release.

The two teachers, employed in different municipalities, received pregnancy benefits from the Social Insurance Agency during the time they were not allowed to work. This means a lower compensation than their usual salary.

The Labor Court refers to EU rules that stipulate that pregnant employees who are prohibited from working due to risks to the mother's or child's health should be guaranteed maintained rights. The court announces that it has therefore instructed the municipalities to pay the teachers' salaries, as well as a certain discrimination compensation.
