The Allsvenskan resumed on Sunday after a summer break. Malmö FF hosted Halmstad BK. After Malmö's victory, a larger group of MFF supporters marched towards Möllevångstorget.
Upon arrival at a bar, another group of MFF supporters were waiting, and a large fight broke out, according to the police website.
17 people were detained following an operation that lasted for several hours. The incident is being investigated as assault, unlawful threats, and vandalism.
According to the police, several of the individuals were convicted as recently as last week for violent rioting in connection with MFF's away match in Stockholm in September 2023.
I would naturally wish that the verdict would serve as a warning to those who engage in fighting and disorder at matches, and it is regrettable that this happens again, Caroline Rosén, operations leader at the match between MFF and Halmstad, in a press release.
None of the suspects were still in police custody on Monday, according to Sydsvenskan.
