During Friday afternoon, the first crane was spotted at the popular birdwatching site Hornborgasjön, announces the County Administrative Board of Västra Götaland in a press release.
"It has felt like it has been on its way for a while and we have received reports of cranes heading north. That the first crane is now here is a fantastic spring sign", says Sofie Stålhand, site manager at Hornborgasjön.
The crane is likely the first one to have made the journey, after spending the winter in Europe.
"The first crane is so long-awaited! Even if it takes until mid-March before the real crane festival with large flocks reaches Hornborgasjön", she says in the press release.
The first cranes spotted at the lake are believed to belong to the approximately 30 pairs that breed there, according to the County Administrative Board.
