The Netherlands is tightening warnings to people who move outdoors in nature after a six-year-old was injured in a wolf attack, reports the German news agency DPA.

The current wolf has previously been described as a "problem wolf" and is believed to be behind the new attack on the outskirts of the city of Utrecht.

The six-year-old was attacked on Wednesday when the wolf dragged him into the forest. Approaching people were finally able to chase the wolf away by hitting it with tree branches. The boy was taken to hospital with bite wounds.

There has long been a warning in the current nature reserve, but now the authorities are extending the warning to a larger forest and natural area.

The wolf's behavior is described as "abnormal and worrying". It has previously bitten a woman in the leg and a child in the side during a school trip.

A permit to shoot the wolf has recently been issued.
