Two weeks ago, the news broke that the legendary Liverpool captain Alan Hansen was seriously ill and being cared for in hospital.

However, the 68-year-old is now being discharged and will continue his recovery at home.

This has been announced by the family via Liverpool's website, while also thanking everyone for their support.

"Alan, Janet, Adam, Lucy and the rest of the family would like to thank you for all the loving messages and support. It has been overwhelming, and has helped us enormously", the family writes on the club's website, continuing:

"We are also extremely grateful for the respect shown for our private life while Alan continues his recovery."

It is still unclear how Hansen is doing today, or what he has been afflicted with.

Alan Hansen won numerous titles, including three European Championship titles (today's Champions League), with Liverpool during his total of 620 appearances for the club.
