One of the two men who were sentenced to life imprisonment for being behind the murder of a 72-year-old man in Åstorp municipality in August 2023 has been released from custody pending the upcoming court of appeal verdict, reports HD/Sydsvenskan.
The charges against him will be dismissed, but the reasons for this we will have to wait for until the verdict is announced, says prosecutor Cathrine Bengtsson to the newspaper.
It was in early August last year that the man was found shot to death in his home.
In total, five people were charged with involvement in the murder. Two of them were charged with accessory to murder, but were acquitted by the district court. Two men were sentenced to life imprisonment for instigating the murder, and a 21-year-old man was sentenced by the district court to 16 years' imprisonment for carrying out the murder.
The court of appeal verdict will be announced on October 30.
