Liverpool's legendary captain Alan Hansen, 68 years old, is seriously ill and is being treated in hospital.
The Premier League club is giving support to Alan Hansen's family, writes the club on its website.
"Our thoughts and support from everyone at Liverpool FC go to our legendary captain Alan Hansen, who is seriously ill and is in hospital," writes the club.
The former Scottish international player joined Liverpool from Scottish Partick Thistle in 1977. The defender won the European Cup (today's Champions League) three times, took eight league titles, two FA Cup titles and won the League Cup on three occasions in a total of 620 matches for Liverpool.
