HV71's general manager Chris Abbott is leaving Swedish ice hockey next year. The 40-year-old has secured a job with NHL team Carolina Hurricanes, writes HV71 on its website.

"It's naturally sad for us, but at the same time we're happy for Chris to have gotten this opportunity," says HV71's chairman Anna-Lena Isaksson.

Abbott spent his last two seasons as a player with HV71 and returned to the Jönköping club in the spring, when he signed a three-year contract as general manager.

In the spring of 2025, he will leave for his new job in Carolina, where the Canadian will become part of the NHL club's management.

"I have an incredible amount of feelings for HV71 and therefore it's been a tough decision for me. At the same time, it's a great chance to get a leading role in an NHL club and I didn't want to miss that opportunity," says Abbott.
