Lady football pioneer Ulf Bergquist has died, 83 years old, reports Borås Tidning.
Bergquist won four national championship golds as a coach, was national team captain for Sweden's ladies' national team for a year, and was general secretary for what is now called Elite Football Ladies for several years.
He began his coaching career in Öxabäck IF in 1975 and it ended with a national championship gold directly after winning the final on penalties against Jakobsberg. In 1979, Bergquist was national team captain for the ladies' national team before temporarily winding down in favor of his civilian career as CEO of Ellos department store, writes the newspaper.
In the second half of the 1980s, he returned to elite football and won two national championship golds and two cup golds with Öxabäck before being recruited to Malmö FF for a fourth national championship gold in 1990.
After that, Ulf Bergquist was club director in the Scanian giant club for nearly ten years.
