Kristersson: "Outright cheating" in Georgia

Everything suggests that the election in Georgia did not go right, says Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson (The Moderate Party). He also implies that Hungary is doing Russia's bidding.

We have not received the final reports, but everything suggests that there have been many irregularities, that it is an election that is not reliable, that there has been outright cheating in various ways, says Kristersson to TT.

The Swedish government has decided to pause all direct authority cooperation with Georgia after the election, where the sitting government party Georgian Dream, which has approached Russia, won.

This is extremely worrying, that a Russian-influenced government does everything they can to stop serious approaches to Europe where there is a popular will. And it must have consequences, says the Prime Minister.

We cannot work with authorities that counteract everything we stand for.

Orbán: Democratic

Kristersson also reacts to Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán's statement that the election was "free and democratic."

He does not speak for Europe's countries, he does not speak for Sweden, he possibly speaks for Russia, but he does not speak for us others.

The Swedish Prime Minister also implies that the election in Moldova, which was recently held, did not go right.

Everything also suggests extensive irregularities.

It is thus two countries that now stand precisely between Russian influence and European, democratic influence in the midst of ongoing war. Extremely ominous, I would say.

"Really dangerous"

Are you worried that we can get a situation in Georgia similar to the one in Belarus?

Yes, the Russian ambition is to stop approaches to Europe, it has been going on for a very long time. It is not warfare in traditional military forms, but it is hybrid warfare against these countries that makes it really dangerous.

We spoke with Zelensky yesterday, he also points out that what Russia is now doing to Ukraine, it is also exactly what they would like to do to Moldova as soon as possible.
