Six attacks on sheep in the area led the County Administrative Board to decide on protective hunting as early as mid-June. The protective hunting was completed on Monday without any animal being felled. Four new attacks could however be confirmed during the time.

Lynx are curious animals and it can be difficult to prevent attacks. A lynx that has learned to see sheep as a food resource often returns to the same place and it is therefore difficult to break the pattern of damage, says Ingemar Parck, wildlife manager at the County Administrative Board Stockholm.

Now, a larger area will be covered by the protective hunting as the County Administrative Board believes that the lynx is a so-called problem individual and has developed an increased interest in sheep. The hunt is allowed until July and is not considered to hinder the maintenance of a favorable conservation status for lynx.
