The miscalculation proved to be fatal, he says.
Criticism is being voiced when Kristersson is questioned about how it happened when the Swedes Johan Flodérus and Saeed Azizi, imprisoned in Iran, were exchanged for the Iranian Hamid Noury, convicted of war crimes.
No task is more important for the government than Sweden's and all Swedes' security, says the Prime Minister.
He emphasizes that this task becomes even more important when Swedes are completely innocently accused abroad and used as hostages.
It becomes even more important if, as in Johan Flodérus' case, it is also due to the fact that no travel warning was issued to Iran during the previous government, which should have been issued, given the unique information the government already had about the increased danger for Swedes traveling to Iran, says Kristersson.
Flodérus was arrested in Iran on April 17, 2022. When he was arrested at the airport in Tehran, there was no travel warning at all from Sweden to Iran, according to Kristersson.
Which in itself is both serious and strange, since the previous government had already received clear warnings in March 2022 that there was an increased threat against Swedes in Iran, he says.
The threat was due to the Swedish government's decision on December 22, 2020, to prosecute Noury in Sweden, despite the crimes having been committed in another country.
It is the Ministry of Foreign Affairs that issues the travel warning.
There was a basis for issuing such a warning, says Kristersson.
