In the middle of the second period, the home team got a player sent off – then Karlsson made sure to score 4–1 in a numerical disadvantage.

The assist came as early as two minutes into the first period when he served Tanner Pearson, who scored directly and set the first goal of the match.

The 31-year-old from Märsta, who scored 30 goals in the regular season last season, suffered an unspecified injury on September 21, which has kept him out of play until tonight's match.

It feels like a pretty good start. It's always fun to score goals, he says to Sportbladet after the match.

Most of all, it was fun to be back and play hockey. Sitting on the stands and watching is not that great. Considering it was the first match of the season, I think it felt pretty good in both legs and arms.

Alexander Holtz in Vegas was credited with an assist, and in the opposing team San Jose, both Fabian Zetterlund and William Eklund were credited with a goal-assisting pass each.

Another Swede who delivered points tonight is Vancouver's Elias Pettersson, who initiated the goal-scoring when his Vancouver beat Pittsburgh at home with 4–3.
