Will Alexander Isak stay in Newcastle or eventually end up in Liverpool? The summer's big football saga is still waiting for an answer. Before the match, much of the talk was about the Swedish superstar's future.

But maybe Liverpool's intense hunt for Isak's signature will calm down a bit now. Because when 16-year-old Rio Ngumoha was substituted in in the 96th minute, it only took four minutes before he stood as the match winner.

Shown out

Newcastle's first cold shower came after just over half an hour when the guests' Ryan Gravenberch scored the leading goal at goalkeeper Nick Pope's right post with a shot from outside the penalty area.

This became the first in a series of setbacks for the home team.

Just before half-time, striker Anthony Gordon was shown the red card after a careless sliding tackle on Liverpool's Virgil van Dijk. 2–0 came 22 seconds into the second half through Hugo Ekitike.

Caught up with the deficit

Despite having one man less on the pitch, the home team managed to get a reduction a good quarter into the second half, and when the Dane William Osula pressed in 2–2 from close range after a free kick in the 88th minute, Newcastle's unlikely recovery was complete.

But it didn't end there.

After 100 minutes of pure football drama, Ngumoha appeared in Newcastle's penalty area and put in 3–2 for the guests, which also became the final result.

Alexander Isak was not included in Newcastle's squad. However, national team colleague Anthony Elanga played the entire match for the home team.
