Stockholm Police Address Strained Situation After Violent Weekend

After a seemingly calm summer, three people have been killed during the previous weekend in Stockholm. The weekend has meant a number of completed violent crimes. It has been a strained situation in the entire region, says police area chief Magnus Mowitz to Dagens Nyheter.

Last Friday evening, a person died in connection with a car explosion in Östberga, on Saturday a young man was shot and injured in Sätra and during the night towards Monday, two men were shot dead in a car in Kallhäll.

It has been a few violent days in the Stockholm area, but according to Magnus Mowitz, police area chief for Stockholm north, the trend has actually been constant – but the police have managed to prevent crimes from being completed.

From my perspective, we have had an extremely active summer where we have been able to stop several crimes, says Mowitz to DN.

More crimes were completed during the summer last year than this year, he says.

After the weekend's violence, the police work is partly about stopping possible acts of revenge.

We are still in a mapping phase before we can make a better assessment, but of course, an intelligence effort and a crime-preventing effort is underway directly after such events. Both visible police resources and hidden resources are being used.
