Already before the match started, it was clear that neither Sweden nor Egypt would advance from the group stage in the World Championship in Thailand, after two initial losses. The match was thus only about determining third and fourth place in the group, behind the Netherlands and Thailand.

Top favorite Sweden started well and won the first set clearly, with 25–18.

The second set was much more even: Egypt took the lead, Sweden caught up, Egypt took the lead, Sweden caught up. In the end, Egypt won the set with 28–26.

Set three was also even, but after a timeout, Sweden was able to pull away and win with 25–20.

In the fourth and final set, Sweden was back from the first set, and was able to finish the match with set scores of 25–16, and thus 3–1 in sets. As a result, Sweden finishes in third place in group A, and has played out the championship.

The victory over Egypt was the Swedish women's volleyball team's first win in a World Championship.

It has been a tough tournament for us, but it has been really fun and we have gained a lot of experience. In the end, we made history. Of course, we would have liked to play better two days ago, but I think we should be proud of what we have done, says Isabelle Haak.

Sweden lost the first group stage match against the Netherlands with 2–3 in sets and the match against Thailand with 0–3 in sets.

The World Championship in Thailand is the first World Championship the Swedish women's volleyball team has played.
