Shooter Philip Jönsson failed to repeat the success from the Paralympic Games in Tokyo, when he took gold in 10 meter air rifle, standing. In Paris, it did not even result in a final for the reigning champion from Mariestad.
The 30-year-old took Sweden's only gold in Tokyo but has been clear before this year's Paralympic Games that the build-up has been tough. Jönsson has Duchenne muscular dystrophy, a disease that causes muscles to break down and be replaced by fat and connective tissue, and has been "in and out of hospital", as he expressed it in a recent interview with Dagens Nyheter.
In Friday's qualifying round, it was mainly the fifth of six shooting series that ruined the final chances for the Swede, who finished twelfth. The top eight advanced to the final.
Two events remain for Jönsson in Paris: 10 meter air rifle, prone, and 50 meter rifle, prone.
