On Wednesday, Petter Northug participated in a roller ski race in Norwegian Lysebotn. After the race, he gave a message about the future.

If you are to get involved in the process of changing nationality, it is probably first and foremost the World Championship 2027 that is current. So right now, I will continue to focus on long-distance racing. I put the Olympic Games dream aside, says Northug to Norwegian TV2.

The ski legend, who put his cross-country career on the shelf after the 2017 season, has since continued to compete in long-distance racing and dreamed of an Olympic comeback.

He does not qualify for the Norwegian national team. Therefore, he has tried to change nationality, where Liechtenstein, Austria, and even Mexico have been possible nations. Those attempts have however been stranded and the Olympic Games dream will not come true.

Petter Northug is one of Norway's foremost athletes of all time with 20 Olympic Games and World Championship medals on the list of merits.
