The security for the Israeli Olympic team and all leaders will be extra meticulous during the summer championships.
This is announced by France's Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin.
The French police will monitor the team around the clock.
They will receive reinforced protection throughout their stay. Israeli athletes are exposed targets for attacks. We have known this since the games in Munich (in 1972), and we have also seen it recently, says Darmanin to France 2.
During the championships in Munich 52 years ago, a terrorist attack was carried out by the Palestinian group "Black September" against the Israeli Olympic team, where several leaders and athletes were killed. Now the conflict is again inflamed, and to prevent a new tragedy, security will be extended around Israeli participants in the Olympics.
Prior to the championships, Israeli media have reported that both athletes and leaders have received threatening messages.
The Olympics will officially open on Friday, July 26.
