The demand is made in a letter written by Israel's UN ambassador Danny Danon, where he also once again accuses Unrwa of being "infiltrated" by terrorist-stamped Hamas.
"Unrwa must cease its activities in Jerusalem and evacuate all premises where they operate in the city by January 30, 2025 at the latest", it states in the letter.
The letter is a follow-up to the decision made by the Israeli parliament Knesset in October, where Unrwa was banned from operating on Israeli territory and with Israeli authorities.
Israel has for almost a year now accused employees of Unrwa of having ties to terrorist-stamped Hamas. The UN has investigated the allegations and found that nine employees may have been involved in Hamas' attack on Israel on October 7, 2023. The nine have been dismissed.
"Preventing Unrwa from operating can sabotage the ceasefire in Gaza", writes Unrwa chief Philippe Lazzarini on X.
He does not specifically mention Jerusalem, but writes that the UN agency has brought in food for one million people in Gaza during the first three days of the ceasefire.
"Unrwa's work must continue in Gaza and around the occupied Palestinian areas", he writes.
