The mass arrest could take place because people reported suspicious individuals to the authorities, says the police spokesperson Saeed Montazeralmahdi on Iranian state TV.
Montazeralmahdi, on the other hand, does not go into which criminal charges all the tens of thousands of arrested suspects are suspected of, beyond that more than 260 are suspected of espionage and 172 have been arrested for filming illegally.
During the war, which took place between June 13 and 24, the police set up more than 1,000 roadblocks in the country.
The war killed nearly 1,100 Iranians, among them many high-ranking military commanders. Iranian attacks killed 28 people in Israel.
During the weeks that followed, Iran has increased the number of executions. Several of those hanged have been accused of spying for Israel. Iran, however, issues death sentences lightly, often after confessions that have been forced under torture.
