The meeting between the head of Sudan's regular army, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, and the US envoy to Africa, Massad Boulos, took place in Switzerland on Monday, according to sources.
The parties had a three-hour meeting where they are said to have discussed the proposal for a comprehensive ceasefire in Sudan as well as deliveries of humanitarian aid.
The war in Sudan broke out in April 2023 when the conflict between the country's regular army and the paramilitary rebel group RSF's conflict spread across the country. Mediation attempts have been made by the US and Saudi Arabia over the past two years, but without results.
Over 20,000 people have been killed and over 14 million have been displaced from their homes. Sudan is often described as the largest humanitarian disaster in the world.
