A female student in Iran was arrested on Saturday after protesting against the country's laws on how women are allowed to dress in public, by undressing to her underwear outside her university, according to several media reports.
The woman, who has not been identified, had been harassed inside Tehran's prestigious Islamic Azad University by members of the paramilitary Basij force, who allegedly tore off her headscarf and clothes.
She then undressed in protest and sat outside the university dressed only in her underwear before walking out onto the street, to the amazement of passersby, as shown in videos published on social media.
Another video shows her being taken away by men in civilian clothes. The news agency Amir Kabir writes that she was beaten during the arrest.
According to the dress code that is mandatory in Iran, women must wear a headscarf and loose-fitting clothes in public.
