The Imam Sami Al-Tameemi at the Lebanese cultural association in Malmö is suspended after he praised the terrorist-stamped Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, reports SVT Skåne.
In a hidden recording from inside the mosque during the Friday prayer on October 4, Nasrallah is praised as a martyr and for being "a wise and insightful man with high moral standards".
Al-Tameemi has himself taken responsibility for the statement, but claimed that he was not aware that Hezbollah was classified as a terrorist organization, and that he praised Nasrallah as a Shia Muslim.
In a press release, the Lebanese cultural association in Malmö writes that the Imam acted in a way that does not represent the association.
The decision means that Al-Tameemi is no longer allowed to hold Friday prayers and sermons.
Hassan Nasrallah was from 1992 until his death on September 27 the highest leader of the Shia militia Hezbollah in Lebanon.
